Yotel appoints marketing chief from London Eye

Yotel, the capsule hotel brand set to debut in the autumn, has appointed London Eye marketer Jo Berrington as its first sales and marketing director.

Berrington has been head of marketing for the British Airways London Eye since it opened in 2000.

At Yotel she will be responsible for managing the brand, sponsorships and advertising and direct marketing. She will also oversee sales and product development.

Berrington is a former British Airways sales and marketing executive and was responsible for marketing BA's 37 regional routes out of Manchester and Birmingham airports.

Yotel's rooms are set to open at Heathrow and Gatwick. They will be aimed at delayed and transfer passengers or early-morning flyers who want to arrive the night before. The floor area will be 10sq m and rooms will have rotating double beds, mood lighting, pull-down desks, flat-screen TV and wi-fi access.

The "cabins" will be bookable in four-hour blocks with a standard cabin rate of £25.

The concept has been developed by Yo Sushi! founder Simon Woodruffe and Yotel chief executive Gerard Green.
