Property company that houses the Ellington in administration

The property company that owns luxury Leeds retreat the Ellington, has collapsed into administration.

The boutique hotel, which employs Michelin-stared chef Albert Roux as a consultant, is continuing to trade as MCR oversees the administration process for property owner City Retreats Group.

A spokeswoman for Pantin Hotels, which manages the business, said: "The property company that owns the Ellington in Leeds is in administration.

"Pantin Hotels, as the hotel's operating company, does not have any equity in the building and is not itself in financial difficulties. Pantin Hotels is working with the administrators to try and find a buyer for the property. In the meantime, the Ellington continues to trade."

A spokesman for administrators MCR said: "I can confirm that City Retreats is in administration but the hotel itself is solvent and is continuing to trade."

The Ellington is a 35-room luxury hotel named after the legendary American jazz pianist Duke Ellington.

It opened last September and its art deco-themed restaurant features a menu devised by Roux.

Pantin Hotels also operates the Floridita bar restaurant, on the corner of Briggate and The Cals, which opened late last year in the building formerly occupied by Break for the Border.

Pantin was launched by the former managing director of Rocco Forte Hotels, David Pantin.
