Ritz-Carlton to strengthen presence in Europe
The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company has created the position of regional vice president for Europe.
Victor Clavell, general manager of the Hotel Arts in Barcelona, Ritz-Carlton's first hotel in Europe, will now also be responsible for all ten of the company's luxury hotels.
Prior to his promotion he oversaw Ritz-Carlton Hotels in Southern Europe. Since joining The Ritz-Carlton in 1992 he has held numerous positions in the food and beverage and rooms divisions of Ritz-Carlton Hotels in the Spain, United States, Asia and Mexico.
Hervé Humler, international president of The Ritz-Carlton, said Clavell brought "a wealth of experience to this important position".
"His vast international experience in all aspects of the hotel industry will strengthen our positioning in Europe and our ability to compete in today's changing economic environment," he said.
Clavell was a member of the opening team of Hotel Arts Barcelona, where he returned several years later as general manager. In 2000 he moved to New York to open another flagship hotel, The Ritz-Carlton New York, Central Park.
Three years later he returned to Europe to lead the openings of the new Ritz-Carlton Hotels Penha Longa Hotel, Golf & Spa Resort, Hotel Villa Padierna, Marbella and Abama Golf & Spa Resort.
Ritz Carlton Hotels comprises Spain (Barcelona, Marbella, Tenerife), Portugal (Lisbon), Germany (Berlin, Wolfsburg, Turkey (Istanbul), Moscow (Russia), Ireland (Powerscourt) and the Bulgari Hotel in Milan.
