Schoolgirl heads school meals campaign
A poster designed by a 12-year-old schoolgirl has been chosen to front the School Food Trust's Million Meals campaign, which aims to improve children's health by getting a million more students nationwide eating school meals by 2010.
Laura Doherty, a pupil at Haslingden High School, Lancashire, entered her poster design into a national competition. It will be displayed in school canteens across the country at the start of the school term in September, when the government's nutrient-based school meals standards come into force.
‘‘With the recent improvements to school food, there's never been a better time for students to start eating delicious, healthy school meals. Laura's poster will help ensure more students eat better to do better,'' said Prue Leith, chair of the School Food Trust.
More than 5,100 schools across the country have already signed up to the Million Meals campaign.
