School Food Trust funded training kitchen opens at Enfield college

A new training kitchen part funded by a School Feast grant from the School Food Trust is to open at Southgate College in Enfield, North London, next week.

Earlier this year the college put in a bid for a grant and it was awarded £98,000 towards the building of a state of the art training kitchen. Southgate College also contributed £70,000 towards the work.

The courses the college hopes to offer include food preparation and cooking (level one and two); hospitality, supervision and leadership (level three) and City & Guilds level 1 ‘Providing a healthier school meals service'.

Initially courses will be available internally, but in the future the college plans to extend the offer outside the borough.

School chef of the year Sophie Wright will be attending, and Electrolux Professional executive chef Alan Davis will be carrying out a demo at the launch.
