Women celebrated in Shine Awards 2010

The achievements of women in the hospitality, leisure, travel and tourism sector were recognised last night at the 2010 Shine Awards.

The awards ceremony, which took place at the Jumeirah Carlton Hotel, London was attended by some of the most senior representatives of the British travel and tourism industry, including Rt Hon Margaret Hodge MBE MP, Minister for Culture and Tourism.

Eleven women, who demonstrated extraordinary contribution to the industry, commitment to their businesses and to their members of staff were celebrated.

Wendy Bartlett, managing director of contract caterer Bartlett Mitchell Catering walked away as winner in the Entrepreneur Category, while Diane Webster of Beacon Purchasing won the Technology Innovator Award.

It was also a good night for hotels, with the Corporate award going to Teresa Wong from the Swissotel, the Howard London and the Young Achiever award to Tara Farnham from Thistle Hotels.

Gaby Marcon, the awards' co-founder said: "Last night's winners are nothing short of exceptional. These women have often triumphed against the odds, working tirelessly to achieve their goals and all along acted as great role models and mentors both within the organisations they work for and to the communities in which they operate in. We are all truly inspired."
