Radford bounces back

Scottish restaurateur Andrew Radford, who sold the site of his failed Glasgow restaurant just before Christmas, said last week that the experience would not stop him from opening other restaurants in future.

Blue in Glasgow closed as a restaurant last August but it took several months to sell the site.

The restaurant never achieved its predicted turnover figures and had a series of problems including additional fitting-out costs and burst pipes causing repeated flooding.

Radford and his wife Lisa are now concentrating on their two successful Edinburgh restaurants: the Atrium and the original Blue.

Radford said: "We are still pretty confident that Blue will work in other locations, although for the moment the emphasis is on consolidating and getting ourselves back to where we were 18 months ago.

"For the last year the Edinburgh restaurants have essentially been supporting Glasgow."

Radford, who was independent restaurateur of the year in the Catey awards for 2000, added that he may stick with Edinburgh for the next Blue, perhaps in a "neighbourhood" version.
