Compass launches ‘whole + sum' healthy eating menu deal

Compass Group has launched a new mix-and-match food offer aimed at customers looking for an easy approach to healthy eating at breakfast or lunchtime.

The "whole + sum" concept is made up of three mix-and-match components, and no complete dish adds up to more than 500 calories. Each meal component also features full nutritional analysis.

This is the latest in a series of wellbeing initiatives to be rolled out by the contract caterer, following the launch of the Government's Responsibility Deal last year. In November Compass announced that it had taken almost eight tonnes of salt out of its food offer by reducing the size of the sachet.

The whole + sum offer was developed after a successful initiative by Compass Group's US business and is expected to be rolled out across its UK operations this month.

Nick Vadis (pictured), UK executive chef at Compass, said that while whole + sum was intended to be the healthy option, there had been no compromise on taste.

"The delicious recipes are bursting with flavour - gone are the days of balanced food tasting bland. The great range in the whole + sum offer even includes popular favourites that many people may not think could be included at this calorie level and I've no doubt it's going to be a big hit with our customers."

In the whole + sum menu, every lunch plate is made up of 250 calories of protein, 200 calories of carbohydrates and 50 calories of vegetables or fruit. At breakfast, a plate is no more than a 500 calories with 100 calories of fruit and 100 calories of juice or smoothie and 300 calories from a starchy carbohydrate.
