Pizza chain Rossopomodoro plans five new sites

London-based pizza chain Rossopomodoro plans to open five new restaurants in the next year as part of a £4m investment.

Rossopomodoro, the largest pizza brand in Italy, which runs three restaurants in London as well as a concession at Selfridges in Birmingham, will open the first new site this week. It will be a 150-seat restaurant in Camden, north London, which will be followed by a 70-seat outlet in Hoxton in June.

Further locations will include Watford in September as well as Wandsworth, south London, and Swiss Cottage, north London, next January.

The expansion, headed by managing director Handley Amos, is part of the company's wider development plans in the UK, Italy, the USA and additional territories, following investment from private equity firm and retail and consumer industry specialist Change Capital Partners LLP.

The investment will also include a redesign of the brand's logos and existing restaurants' interiors, which will be gradually rolled out across the group's 137 locations globally.

Amos said: "The redesign helps us to better demonstrate what lies at the heart of Rossopomodoro, which is the authentic, Neapolitan cuisine. No one in the UK prepares pizza and pasta using ingredients sourced solely from farms and businesses in and around Naples itself - the heartland of Italian pizza.

"We continue to raise the bar for high-quality pizza and pasta. And it is an enormous honour that the UK should be leading the group in a new style for the restaurants with a simpler, brighter look that leaves no one in any doubt this is a restaurant born in Naples."

Franco Manna and Giuseppe Montella opened their first restaurant in Naples in 1988 and in 1999 the first Rossopomodoro branded restaurants opened in Naples, with the first Anema e Cozze restaurant opening in same city in 2000.
