Restaurant Associates to launch Anthony Demetre pop-up at Tower 42

Executive dining company Restaurant Associates (RA) has teamed up with Michelin-starred chef Anthony Demetre for a new pop-up venture at its City restaurant in Tower 42, following the conclusion of its long-term partnership with Gary Rhodes.

Demetre, who is behind London restaurants Arbutus, Wild Honey and Les Deux Salons along with business partner Will Smith, will open his 12-week pop-up on 1 October.

Commenting on the new pop-up, RA managing director Andy Harris suggested that this project could pave the way for further collaborations with other top UK chefs.

"We are delighted to announce the opening of AD12 atT42 with Anthony Demetre and incredibly excited about this new phase for Restaurant Associates at Tower 42," he said.

"Our relationships with renowned chefs like Anthony are based on a shared philosophy of bringing the world's best to every one of our customers. A combination of a fantastic culinary experience and spectacular views of the iconic London skyline at AD12 atT42 are set to delight diners this autumn, marking an exciting time not just for us, but for London's thriving culinary scene."

Working closely with Demetre at AD12 atT42 will be head chef Patrick Powell, whose experience includes restaurants in Ireland and in Australia. He began working with Demetre two years ago at Wild Honey.

The daily changing bistro menu is expected to offer a less formal dining experience for Tower 42 guests than the Michelin-starred Rhodes 24, created with seasonal and high quality ingredients.

Sample dishes include squid and mackerel ‘burger' with Cornish razor clams; crisp pigs head with potato purée and pickled turnip; rabbit saddle and shoulder with roast carrot and autumn greens; London honey ice cream with honeycomb; and chocolate Aero bar with pears. A selected list of wines will be available by the carafe, in line with Demetre's other restaurants.

Demetre, who won a Michelin star at Putney Bridge in South London before opening his first restaurant Arbutus, followed by Wild Honey and most recently Les Deux Salons, said he is delighted by the collaboration with RA.

"We will be offering popular dishes that reflect the style of Arbutus and Wild Honey whilst also bringing in some new and exciting contemporary dishes," he added.

The announcement comes as chef-restaurateur Jason Atherton finalises plans for a permanent restaurant that is expected to open in the space early next year. The 2012 Catey Chef Award winner first started working with RA in 2010 as a consultant to help create bespoke concepts for individual clients, staff training and menu creation.

The Rhodes and RA partnership, which has spanned 10-years, was reported to be drawing to a close, when the caterer confirmed that the contract would not be renewed earlier this year. The Rhodes 24 restaurant in Tower 42 will remain open to diners until the end of the month.
