Plans submitted for £9m Premier Inn

Plans are to be submitted for a mixed-use scheme which includes a Premier Inn hotel and Brewers Fayre restaurant at Bakers Quay in Gloucester.

The joint venture between Merchant Place Developments and Rokeby has lined up a £9m leasehold deal with Premier Inn for a 105-bedroom hotel on the 3.7 acre site, which was formerly the premises of West Midland Farmers.

The hotel will be in St Ann Way and the Brewers Fayre food pub at Provender Mill.

A Rokeby Developments managing director said: "We are set to submit a planning application in August for the refurbishment of the existing warehouses, and retaining the historic features of these buildings is a really important part of the scheme. We want to make the most of the heritage of Bakers Quay and its great waterside location."

Michael Chicken, chief executive of Merchant Place Developments, added: "We are backing this exciting scheme because we believe it will be a great catalyst in helping Gloucester fulfil its potential to become an even more important destination for leisure and business and an increasingly popular place to live."

Work is expected to begin on site by June 2016.
