Plans for new hotel in Edinburgh as part of £850m regeneration project

Plans for a luxury hotel in Edinburgh - part of a regeneration project in the city costing £850m - will be put before the City of Edinburgh Council later this summer.

Investment management company TH Real Estate is hoping for planning permission to be granted for the 210-bedroom property which will also feature restaurants, bars and a rooftop terrace.

TH Real Estate says the building will be iconic and will affirm Edinburgh's position as a global destination, having already attracted attention from international hotel brands.

It will overlook St James Square and will offer a new landmark building for the city.

Martin Perry, director of development, TH Real Estate said: "We are absolutely delighted that the City of Edinburgh Council has backed our vision for Edinburgh St James. We are now focused on the next phase of our plans for this landmark development - providing Edinburgh with a brand new, vibrant and exciting place to live, visit and shop in the heart of the city."

The development is one of the biggest regeneration projects currently underway in the UK. Construction for Edinburgh St James is scheduled to start in 2016 with completion due in 2020.
