Hawksmoor experiences delays with World Trade Center opening

Last year steak restaurant group Hawksmoor announced plans to break in to the USA, however "progress is slow" according to owner Will Beckett.

Hawksmoor was expected to open in a 14,000sq ft space within the Westfield World Trade Center in lower Manhattan, New York at some point during 2017.

However, speaking to The Caterer Beckett said there were delays at the World Trade Center.

He said: "I don't think there'll be any restaurants in Tower three until 2019. I'm hoping to have more information before too long but in the meantime we've been going out there a lot, continuing to try and make friends, eat in great restaurants and work on design and supply chain."

The USA menu will be similar to the UK one, serving dishes potted beef, bacon chips cooked in beef drippings, and braised pig trotters. It will source beef locally.

Hawksmoor was founded by Will Beckett and Huw Gott in 2003. It has restaurants located in Piccadilly; Borough Market; Knightsbridge; Seven Dials; Spitalfields; the City of London; and Manchester.

Last year, Hawksmoor made a pre-tax profit of £4.2m making it a record year for the brand despite its owner, the Underdog Group, going £9m into the red during the same period.
