£1m debt puts Obelus in hands of receivers

Obelus Hotels, owner of the Londesborough Arms in Yorkshire and the Staindrop Lodge in Sheffield, has gone into receivership with debts of more than £1m.

Its main creditors are high street banks, local suppliers and a national brewery, said receivers Pannell Kerr Forster (PKF).

Obelus, originally a motor dealer, moved into hotel ownership two years ago.

Its assets, including both properties and their bookings, will be sold while the catering, function rooms and residential businesses in both hotels will continue to operate, said PKF.

The Staindrop Lodge has 13 bedrooms and banqueting facilities for up to 180 people. The Londesborough Arms, with 18 bedrooms and banqueting for up to 120 people, is a grade II-listed building in the centre of Market Weighton, in Yorkshire's East Riding.
