ACCOR, the French hospitality group which is bidding for control of Hotels Méridien, suffered a 23% decline in profits from FF802m (ú93m) in 1992 to FF615m (ú71m).

Accor was hit by increased competition in the European travel business and by interest charges from debt raised to acquire Wagons-Lits in 1991.
