Andrew Pern's new restaurant to be called the Star Inn The City
Andrew Pern's new restaurant in York is set to be called the Star Inn The City.
The name plays on that of Pern's award-winning pub, the Star Inn in Harome.
He is launching the new venture alongside Justin Brosenitz, a fellow former student of Scarborough Catering College and former rugby teammate. Brosenitz will run the front of house at the Star Inn The City. Pern will oversee the menu while continuing to focus on running the kitchen at his Harome business, where he hopes to regain a Michelin star. The kitchen at the Star Inn The City will be run by former Northcote chef Matt Hunter, along with other chefs who have previously worked at the Star Inn in Harome.
The 130-cover restaurant will sit in the converted Engine House situated in York's famous Museum Gardens, and work on the project has already begun.
Backed by a syndicate of local businessmen, it is scheduled to open in autumn 2013 and will showcase the best ingredients availably in Yorkshire, serving food and drinks all day from breakfast through to dinner. A private dining room will also be available for corporate functions.
Brosenitz said: "Having worked together previously on a number of projects, Andrew and I have been considering a joint venture for some time and the Engine House building, at the foot of York's historic Lendal Bridge is the most amazing location. In the same way that the backdrop of the 14th century thatched pub at The Star Inn at Harome provides the unique ambience there, the setting of the Engine House, with its views of the river and approach through the Museum Gardens is just perfect. I am York born and bred, and I can't tell you how exciting it is!"
Pern is a three-time Catey winner, having collected the Newcomer award in 1998, the Menu of the Year in 1997, and the Pub and Bar award in 2002.
