Anthony Pender chosen as new BII chairman

The BII has chosen Yummy Pubs boss Anthony Pender as its next chairman.

Pender is the founder and managing director of five-strong Yummy Pubs, and is vice-chairman of the Perceptions Group, which aims to promote the pub sector as a career option.

He has worked at Yummy Pub Company for seven years and previously worked as free trade sales manager at Carlsberg.

Pender was introduced to the board of the BII on Wednesday 26 November, and will be formally appointed at the organisation's AGM on June. Until then, he will work alongside interim chairman Tom Richardson.

Pender said: "I am delighted to be taking up this crucial role at the BII. My focus will be to uphold the values of the BII, grow the membership and support the individuals within the organisation."

Together with chief executive Tim Hulme, Pender will be responsible for implementing the organisation's ambitious plans to drive growth and to re-establish its position as the leading membership and qualifications awarding organisation in the licensed retail sector.

BII chief executive Tim Hulme said: ""I am absolutely delighted to welcome Anthony to the BII, and very much look forward to working with him. Anthony is an inspirational individual and epitomises the entrepreneurial spirit and drive our members thrive on. His past experience and contacts will be a huge asset to the BII and I share his vision for growth and passion for the industry and for this organisation's future."

The nomination and selection panel included Stephen Glancey, group chief executive of C&C Group and the current Licensee of the Year, Lee Price, who were accompanied by two serving non-executives and two trustees.
