Athens among top hotel performers
Athens, host city for this year's Olympic Games, is benefiting from a shortage in hotel supply and is one of the leading markets in the European hotel industry, according to the latest figures from consultants Deloitte.
Deloitte's HotelBenchmark Survey reveals a 10% climb in revenue per available room (revpar) to g67 (£45) across Europe in March. The increase was largely the result of increased bookings, with occupancy up by 8.3% to 65% and average room rates up by 2% to g103 (£69.30).
Rome, Athens and Vienna were the top three performing markets, with revpar increasing by 17%, 16% and 14% respectively. Frankfurt fared worst, with revpar falling by 21%, while Madrid, which was rocked by a terrorist bomb attack in mid-March, recorded a 10% decline in revpar.
