Barracuda employs BII Licensee of the Year at new venture

British Institute of Innkeeping (BII) licensee of the year 2007 Maxine Blake has taken control of Barracuda's latest bar opening, a £1.6m site in Brighouse, West Yorkshire.

The 25th Barracuda bar to open in the UK, and the 217th site for Barracuda Group opened last week.

The Smith & Jones and Varsity operator, which won a Catey in 2006, has plans to open a further 30 pubs this year.

Blake said: "It was a fantastic opening night and excellent first weekend, really busy and it's definitely the biggest thing to have happened to Brighouse for a long time."

Last month it was revealed that Barracuda saw a 3% rise in sales in December, while the majority of rival operators had struggled to boost sales as beer volumes declined and customers felt the impact of the credit crunch.
