Bavarian Beerhouse launches white asparagus menu
German restaurant and bar business Bavarian Beerhouse, which has two sites in the centre of London, has launched a new menu featuring white asparagus.
The asparagus, still relatively unusual in the UK, will be imported from Germany throughout May, when it is harvested.
It will be available at the company's Old Street and Tower Hill businesses.
White asparagus is grown in the dark and has a milder flavour than the green variety grown in the UK. It is also characterised by fatter, chunkier stems.
The white asparagus menu includes: creamy asparagus soup (£4.50), white asparagus with melted butter and new potatoes (£14.50), white asparagus with Black Forest ham, melted butter and new potatoes (£15.50), and breaded pork escalope topped with white asparagus and hollandaise sauce served with new potatoes (£16.50).
