BaxterSmith lands school meals deal

Business caterer BaxterSmith has won a contract to feed 1,000 pupils at the Misbourne School in Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire.

The contract was one of the first to be won by co-founder William Baxter's original company, Baxter & Platts, when it was set up in 1988. Baxter & Platts was bought by Granada, which became part of the Compass Group. Compass's school meals division, Scolarest, currently holds the contract for the school.

Amersham-based BaxterSmith takes over at the start of the school term in September. The five-year contract is worth £100,000 a year and involves a joint venture between the school and the caterer to refurbish the canteen to offer a more modern "high street" style of food service.
