BBPA distributes 20,000 new Challenge 21 posters to Sky Sports pubs

The British Beer and Pub Association has distributed 20,000 updated "Challenge 21" posters to licensees who receive Sky Sports in their pubs.

Although the legal drinking age in Britain is 18, the BBPA's "Challenge 21" campaign seeks to crack down on potential underage sales by encouraging vendors to ask anyone who "looks under 21" for proof of age. Acceptable forms of ID include a driving licence, a passport, a card with the "PASS" hologram (from the National Proof of Age Standards Scheme) or a UK military ID.

Around 300,000 campaign posters have been distributed to pubs over the past seven years.

Brigid Simmonds, BBPA chief executive, said: "It's great to see a boost for our new poster and guidance, which should boost recognition for military ID. It has got to be right that the ID of our service personnel should be acceptable as proof-of-age under Challenge 21."

Sky's Preview magazine is a publication especially designed for licensees who subscribe to Sky Sports, and includes interviews and features on sports stars as well as food and drink industry tips and trends.
