BII unveils winners of its 2011 NITA awards

The licensed retail industry's professional body BII has announced the winners of its 2011 training awards, the BII NITAs, at a ceremony held at the Imperial War Museum, London, on Wednesday 30 November.

Entrants are judged on their own merits irrespective of the size of the organisation or the number of people being trained and do not have to be BII members or BIIAB approved centres or offering BIIAB qualifications.

The winners were:

Supreme Award Luke Davies - Spirit Pub Company

Innovation in Training Award - sponsored by Punch Taverns St Austell Brewery Company

Social Responsibilities Award - sponsored by JD Wetherspoon Inn Confidence

Security Training Award - sponsored by BIIAB Beyond Basics Training Limited

Best Licensee Induction Programme - Managed Estates - sponsored by Enterprise Inns Greene King Local Pubs

Best Licensee Induction Programme - Non Managed Estates - sponsored by Barcare, The Bateman Group University of Surrey Students Union

Professional Company Trainer of the Year - sponsored by Academy of Food and Wine Service Luke Davies, Punch Taverns

Professional Independent Trainer of the Year - sponsored by BII Daniel Pettigrew FBII.tp, Daniel Pettigrew Training

Licensee Trainer of the Year - sponsored by Greene King Pub Partners Caroline Goodwin, The Lounge Bar and Hotel, Penrith

Cathie Smith, CBII director of BIIAB, commented: "We were delighted with the volume of entries to the 2011 NITAs. We were impressed with the quality of these entries, the judging process is rigorous and I congratulate all the shortlisted finalists on their performance."

Vicky Crossingham, CBII, said "I would like to congratulate all the winners of the 2011 BII NITAs. The competition was tough and these winners should be proud of their success."

Neil Robertson, commenting on the success of Luke Davis, who won the Supreme Award for exemplifying excellence and best practice in training, said: "It is quite amazing what Spirit Pub Company have achieved in a sport space of time. I would like to add my congratulations to Luke and all the team at Spirit Pub Company"
