Booker Prize double for contract caterer

CONTRACT caterer Charlton House Catering, based in Henley-on-Thames, has won both the Best Caterer and Best Young Business awards in the Booker Prize for Excellence.

The company was set up in 1991 by Robyn Jones (right) and is on target to reach a turnover of £1m a year during 1994. Current clients include Sony UK's head office, the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association and BUPA (won from Gardner Merchant).

Ms Jones puts her success down to her belief in the personal touch, turning up as she does at all clients' sites to work alongside her staff at least once a week.

Other Booker prize winners were: Jean and Bryce Benson, Burnley House Hotel, North Yorkshire - Best Hotel; James Coward, Les Bouviers, Wimborne, Dorset - Best Restaurant; Brian and Philippa McCabe, the Olde Coach House Inn, Rugby - Best Pub; Steve Tam, the Capitol Chinese restaurant, Birkenhead - chief executive's Sword of Excellence.
