Brazz chosen for new opera house

Brazz, Kit Chapman's brasserie chain, has been selected as the principal restaurant in the Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff's new opera house due to open in November.

The restaurant, which will have 200 seats plus a further 100 outside, will cover 8,500sq ft and is expected to open on 26 November when the centre formally opens.

The Millennium Centre, designed by architects Percy Thomas, is expected to become one of the world's leading performing arts and destination venues, showing opera, ballet and dance, as well as housing seven cultural organisations.

Chapman said the Cardiff Brazz would be a flagship for the group: "This is an extraordinary and unique opportunity for us. As the principal restaurant in the building, this is the big one for us. It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be in a location like this."

n Brazz has been successful in its case against a trademark infringement this week, after a Hampshire restaurant, Berties, used the brasserie's distinctive "B" logo registered to the Brazz name. It is the fourth such case that the company has contested in as many years. Berties agreed to revise its identity and pay all Brazz's legal costs.
