British workers have turned into SNAILS

Three-quarters of cash-rich, time-poor workers are likely to opt for a "quick fix" UK city break this year to bridge the gap until their traditional two-week holiday.

The study of 1,000 adults, dubbed the SNAILS (Stressed and Need Additional Interim Leave) by Thistle Hotels found more than half admitted short breaks appealed because they couldn't afford to save for a longer two-week stint.

Nearly three-quarters said pampering and luxury were top of their agendas, with two-thirds looking for a romantic getaway with the one they love.

Nearly half of the adults surveyed wanted to discover more of what the UK had to offer, while just under half said they preferred to stay in a hotel when visiting relatives because they "couldn't bear to stay under the same roof."
