Capital Pubs appoints operations director as it plans further expansion

The Capital Pub Company has promoted operations mananger Alex Derrick to the role of operations director as the firm prepares to expand its estate from 32 to as many as 50 in the next two to three years.

Derrick joined the company in November 2005 and was previously operations manager of Jacomb Guinness, which operated five pubs in London.

His appointment to the board means he assumes some of the day to day responsibilities undertaken by Clive Watson, the company's chief executive. Watson will focus more on acquisitions and on driving the future expansion of the business.

The company has also continued provision of services from food and drink consultancy Drexl & Floyd. The firm, run by Scott Collins and Paul Holmes, will help Capital Pubs develop new sites and improve the food offering over the next three years. It has recently been involved with developing the Actress in East Dulwich and the Clarence in Balham. Capital said trading in both of those sites had been "very encouraging".

Capital has also undergone a corporate restructuring to create a "more commercial structure". The majority of the business and assets of the company will be transferred to a subsidiary called Capital Pub Company Trading (CPCT). Capital will own 100% of the ordinary share capital in CPCT.

Meanwhile, a new management incentive plan will allow selected senior management to subscribe for ordinary shares in CPCT.
