Carlton invests £7m in face-lift

The £7m refurbishment of Edinburgh's 189-bedroom Carlton Hotel is due to be completed in April next year.

The face-lift is part of a £25m investment project by parent company Paramount Hotels in a drive to improve and maintain standards at the group's 16 UK properties.

Changes being made to the five-star Carlton Hotel include a redesign of the entrance, the creation of a split-level restaurant, and extra meeting rooms.

The refurbishment follows the takeover of Scottish Highland Hotels in August 1999, and the integration of the group's seven hotels with Paramount's nine.

Paramount is also planning a £7m refurbishment of the Oxford Hotel, purchased earlier this year from Moat House.
