Low cost fly screens

CANADIAN-made fly screens in DIY kit form are available from under £10 from DRK Products, quoting for a 500 x 500mm screen. A 1500 x 1000mm version costs £30.25 complete with hinges and cross-member. Units consist of a glass fibre mesh coated in black PVC within a white polyester rectangular section frame.

The mesh is claimed to be very resilient and will not tear easily or dent like metal mesh. Where a window has a large protruding handle, a lightweight timber strip sub frame needs to be fitted to the window frame to act as a mount for the screen.

Frames can be painted to suit the decor. All window units come in kit form. Delivery charges add £6, with an additional £1.50 for each further kit sent at the same time. Custom-made screen doors are also available to order on delivery of typically three weeks. A basic door of normal size costs around £120.
