Westminster City Council is spending £340,000 on recruiting 13 extra food inspectors following revelations that up to 3,000 of central London's 8,500 food premises had not been checked. The council said all premises would be inspected or reassessed by March 1999.

Scottish occupancy rates for April have returned to the 1996 levels of 58%, following a dip last year to 55% during the month, according to latest survey figures from the Scottish Tourist Board.

Hilton International, part of the Ladbroke Group, and Hilton Corporation, owner of the Hilton name in the USA, have launched a new global logo. The move follows a marketing alliance signed last year.
Hilton International plans to increase its portfolio by 20% by 2001.
