A long-running planning dispute about a 6ft-high terrace built at Bristol's Ask Restaurant, an 18th-century Grade II-listed building, is to go to public inquiry.
Riverside team
The same design team that worked on London's Metropolitan hotel and the Clarence hotel in Dublin is to design the Canary Riverside hotel in London Docklands. United Designers will work towards an October 1999 opening.
Inn good heart
Pub chain Inn Business, which runs 469 pubs, increased operating profits by 16% to £5.17m for the half-year to 31 May. Turnover was £18.6m, up by 20%.
Regal sales
Regal Hotels has sold both the George hotel, Chepstow, and the Radnorshire Arms, Presteigne, to Drayton Manor (Hotels) for a total of more than £1m. The sale was conducted through Christie & Co.
Hanover handover
Hanover International has sold the Cork Imperial hotel to the owners of the Old Grand hotel, Ennis, County Clare, through Knight Frank.
Amin Ali
It was not our intention to suggest in an article published in our 23-29 April edition, entitled "Copycat restaurants have little to fear", that Amin Ali copied or ripped off the design and menu ideas of the Café Spice Namaste restaurant when he opened his new venture, "Soho Spice", last year. We accept that there is no foundation whatsoever to this suggestion and did not wish to cause Mr Aliany offence or embarrassment.
