Some of the top hoteliers in the British Isles gathered at the Savoy Hotel in London last week as part of an initiative with the AA to raise awareness of the red star scheme.

Red stars were introduced by the AA in 1975 alongside the black star scheme to highlight the best establishments within each classification. There are 118 red-star hotels: 13 with five stars, 20 at four-star level, 52 with three, 23 with two and 10 holding a single red star.
