WALK-OUT SCHEME

A NATIONWIDE registration scheme to prevent hotel walk-outs - guests who leave without paying - has been set up by a West Sussex hotelier.

GuestWatch, which costs £5 a month, is based on members of the scheme providing names and descriptions for entry on to a central database. In return, they receive a monthly newsletter listing the latest walk-outs.

Norman Elms, proprietor of Worthing's Delmar Hotel, said the idea of a central database came to him after his own hotel suffered two walk-outs on successive days.

He eventually hopes to provide a 24-hour helpline giving members immediate access to the database.

chefs unite

TOP chefs representing six associations have joined forces to plan and cook the World of Hospitality's inaugural dinner being held tonight at London's Earls Court.

All six have united to promote the newly formed British Council of Chefs.
