A SMALL independent hotel in Cornwall has displaced Forte as the most parent-friendly hotel business in the UK.

The Trevelgue hotel in Porth pushed Forte into second place to win the hotel category in the Tommy's 1994 Parent Friendly Awards, presented at the weekend.

McDonald's was an easy winner in the restaurant category, with 26% of the votes, and a special award was made to Brewers Fayre in the pub category for its "pioneering" approach.

Tommy's Campaign, a national charity funding research into childbirth, received more than 21,000 votes from parents in 17 different categories.
