Cateys 2012: Pub and Bar Award – Lee Cash and Hamish Stoddart

Sponsored by Heinz Foodservice

Hamish Stoddart and Lee Cash founded Peach Pub Company in 2002, starting with their first pub the Rose & Crown in Warwick, which they transformed from a down-at-heel boozer into an award-winning business renowned for its high-quality food and drink.

The company now has 15 pubs, turns over £20m, and works with owner-operators and joint-venture partners to give them a share in the success of the business, marking it out as a genuine innovator in the pub and restaurant sector.

In fact, Peach is now 90% owned by operators within the business, and plans to go on to hit 22 pubs and a £29m annual turnover. It is well on the way to that goal, with 2011 sales up by 23%, despite a difficult economic backdrop, and a weekly average turnover of £24,000, with the best doing £40,000 a week.

It was Peach's strong financial performance, combined with its strong entrepreneurial flair, innovative approach and loyalty among both customers and staff, that convinced the judges that it was a worthy winner in 2012 - the year of the company's 10th anniversary.

WHAT THE JUDGES SAID

"An outstanding performance, thoroughly deserved, going to a multiple operator trading in difficult times, doing well and making it look easy!"
Steven Doherty, the First Floor Café

"The group as a whole offers such diverse ‘packages' in each of their individual establishments. This in itself is hard enough in one place, let alone several, and it is a credit to them how they have achieved such a pleasing standard and at last win themselves a fabulous Catey. Well done."
Andrew Pern, the Star Inn, Harome

"The candidates showed a balance between entrepreneurial flair for business and product. The company also achieves significant loyalty from both its customers and staff."
Adam White, Village London
