Charles calls for return to cooking lessons

The Prince of Wales has attacked the "politically correct" pretence of teaching food technology in schools and demanded cooking lessons be put back on the National

Curriculum. Speaking at the Royal Welsh Show this week, he asked: "Why on earth can't we bring back good, old-fashioned home economics, so children can be taught how to cook and learn about food?" The comments came a week after a Department for Education and Skills report on catering in schools revealed that children were still opting for "unhealthy" food options at mealtimes. In the autumn, the Government will publish a healthy-living blueprint setting out what schools can do to improve children's approach to diet.
