The Waterside Inn, which this year celebrates its 30th birthday, will host the first Chef Eats Out event of 2002. Amanda Afiya reports.

He is Britain's longest-running holder of three Michelin stars and this year his legendary business celebrates its 30th birthday - Michel Roux, chef-patron of the Waterside Inn in Bray, Berkshire, is without doubt one of the most influential players of our time.

On Thursday 14 March, in association with British Meat, he has agreed to host an exclusive industry lunch, the first Chef Eats Out event of 2002.

Sixty Caterer readers will have the opportunity to enjoy a seven-course lunch for an incredible £45, including pre-lunch drinks and wine. During the course of the day Roux and his son, Alain, chef-proprietor of the Waterside Inn, will give diners a tour of the property, which includes nine individually designed bedrooms.

Michel and Alain will also be able to give visiting chefs an insight into the workings of the Waterside Inn kitchen, as well as some background to the 18-year-old Roux Scholarship.

Also included in the price of the lunch will be a personalised copy of Michel's seventh and most recent book, Life is a Menu, which was published in October.

Desserts have always made a big impression on diners at the Waterside Inn, reflecting Michel's training as a pâtissier and his qualification as Meilleur Ouvrier de France Pâtisserie-Confiseur, as well as Alain's standing as a Master Pâtissier of Europe. A selection of desserts will be served at the Chef Eats Out lunch.

Over the years, Michel has frequently gone on record expressing his gratitude to the country and, in particular, the industry. As he puts it: "This country has been very good to me over the past 30 years and I want to spend some time putting something back into the industry." Chef Eats Out on Thursday 14 March is another example of him doing just that.

The event will kick off with a reception starting at noon. If you would like to reserve a place at the event, please send a cheque made payable to the Waterside Inn for £45 per person with the completed form on the right.
