Chris and Jeff Galvin acquire Essex pub
Chef-restaurateurs Chris and Jeff Galvin are to open their first gastropub, after acquiring a site in Chelmsford, Essex.
The brothers have exchanged contracts to take on the 14th century Green Man in Howe Street.
They plan to spend at least £1m to get the timber-framed building "up to scratch", according to The Essex Chronicle.
The pub, which is said to date back to 1314, was owned by Greene King before James Gardner bought it in 2013.
Essex is the home county of the Galvins, who are from Felsted. Between them they already operate seven restaurants under the Galvin Restaurants banner, including five in London and two in Scotland.
