Eleven qualify as FutureChef finalists

Eleven potential stars of the future have booked their places in the grand final of the 2004 FutureChef competition, organised by Springboard.

Aimed at school students aged between 12 and 16, this year's competition has seen nearly 5,500 entrants attempt to reach the final through a series of school and regional finals.

The grand final takes place on 5 March at Westminster Kingsway College, where the young chefs will have to prepare a two-course meal for two including a hot main course and a hot or cold dessert. Each has already been given a specific list of ingredients from which they can plan their meals.

"FutureChef provides students - the next generation of chefs - with a positive image of this exciting and vibrant industry," said Springboard managing director Anne Walker.

The finalists, all aged 14 or above, are: Eloise Ling, 15, from Sandown College; Emily Webb, 15, from Hind Leys Community College; Pamela Black, 15, from Battersea Technology College; Danielle Lofthoose, 14, from Hazel Grove High School; Alex Comrie, 15, from St Columbas RC School; Ashley Heasman, 15, from Mintlaw Academy; Sean Beckerleg, 16, from Cornwall; Zoe Goodwin, 15, from Penglais School; Gabby Kinsella, 16, from South Bromsgrove High School; Christopher Ainley, 15, from Rhyills High School; and Peter Tumilty, 16, from Abbey CBS.
