Peter Crome, managing director of the Carnegie Club at Skibo Castle, Dornoch, Sutherland, and former managing director of Chewton Glen in New Milton, Hampshire, has been named as one of the world's best hoteliers by the Gallivanter's Guide, an independent monthly newsletter for travellers.

Chewton Glen was mentioned in four categories: Best Small Hotel Under 100 Rooms (second place), Best Spa in a Hotel (third), Best Resort in Europe (fourth) and Best Hotel General Manager (second).

Crome was rated above the general managers of the Four Seasons, London, the Mark in New York and the Oriental in Bangkok, who were placed third, fourth and fifth respectively. In 2000 he was named Caterer's Hotelier of the Year.
