Crown and Greyhound pub in Dulwich to become boutique hotel

The go-ahead has been given for the refurbishment and extension of the Crown and Greyhound pub in Dulwich Village to create a 20-bedroom boutique hotel.

Design consultancy Turley Associates has been granted planning permission by Southwark Council to transform the Dulwich Estate-owned pub. An operator is yet to be found for the hotel, which is run on a soon-to-expire lease by Mitchells and Butler.

The 1,816sq m scheme involves a design that will create a modern interpretation of the Arts and Crafts style of the building. It will bring redundant parts of the building back into use, as well as see the restoration of the pub's interior, an improved dining room and refurbished kitchen.

Will Lingard, director at Turley Associates, said: "At a time when many pubs are struggling the Dulwich Estate has recognised the importance of this community resource and focal point of Dulwich Village."

The Dulwich Estate added: "There are several local drivers behind hotel demand locally, particularly the Dulwich Picture Gallery, small businesses, the four local schools (including Dulwich College) and demand from families and friends of local residents."
