Delays at Crowne Plaza go to court

Six Continents Hotels is suing Fortis Bank for more than £1m after severe delays to the opening of its Crowne Plaza hotel in London.

The hotel, in Blackfriars, was due to open at the beginning of the year.

Six Continents claims that Fortis Bank has breached a 1998 agreement in which it took over responsibility for the development. The agreement stated that work on the hotel should have been finished by July at the latest.

The writ follows a request by Six Continents to the High Court to clarify clauses in the contract with the developer.

A spokeswoman for Six Continents said building work was continuing on the hotel, but there was no indication as to when it would be ready to open.
