Doubts over new series of ‘Hotel'

A television company is racing to find a new hotel to feature in a second fly-on-the-wall Hotel series.

Last year's controversial eight-part documentary, filmed at Liverpool's Adelphi Hotel, was produced for the BBC by Lion Television. It brought a deluge of criticism of the hotel from the rest of the industry.

Talks on a new series broke down after Adelphi owner Britannia Hotels sought more control over what was broadcast (Caterer, 25 June, page 7).

Lion is now looking for another hotel with "character" but if it cannot find one soon it may have to abandon its plans. "Unless we find something in the next few weeks, it will not happen," said a spokesman.
