Farmed salmon prices on the up
Farmed salmon prices have leaped by up to 33% in the last month. Nigel Ward, of Channel Fisheries, said he was paying as much as £4 per kg instead of the usual £3.
M&J Seafood's purchasing director Mike Berthet said the hike was caused by a combination of factors, including "greater demand on the Continent - some of which may have been driven by the avian flu scare". He added that there was a traditional increase in sales around Mothering Sunday and Easter.
Prices are expected to remain high until August.
