Fire hits Plymouth's Grand Hotel

More than 100 firemen tackled a blaze which destroyed the top two floors of Plymouth's Grand Hotel on Sunday morning.

The three-star, 77-bedroom, grade II-listed hotel, was severely damaged after the fire caused part of the roof to collapse.

Although 62 guests were staying at the hotel, only three diners were in the restaurant when the alarm was raised at 11.45am and they, and 22 members of staff, escaped unhurt.

At one time, 103 firefighters and 15 fire engines attended the blaze on Plymouth Hoe.

Early indications are that it was started by an electrical fault.
