Forte's Cardiff hotel suffers more setbacks

Cardiff's first five-star hotel has suffered yet another setback in its construction after running into problems with its suppliers.

The St David's hotel and spa was expected to open in October, but its completion date has been pushed back until the New Year.

The Rocco Forte-owned property was originally due to open in time for the European Summit held in Cardiff last month. This was put back to October following building problems, and heads of state stayed at other hotels in the city.

Functions planned to take place at the hotel - including Christmas parties and balls - will now have to be held elsewhere or rescheduled.

A spokesman for RF Hotels said: "Obviously we are disappointed because we are keen to bring our five-star hotel to Cardiff as soon as possible. But we have had a problem with international suppliers, including fittings for the bathrooms."
