Fortnum & Mason opens Champagne bar in Heathrow T5

Luxury brand Fortnum & Mason has opened a Champagne bar next to its shop at Heathrow Airport's Terminal 5.

Designed by Universal Design Studio at Barber & Osgerby, the bar serves charcuterie plates with hams, smoked salmon and caviar, plus a drinks list of Champagne, wine and sherries designed to partner with the food.

Inspired by the group's Piccadilly shop, the site also carries through the lighting and décor from the original design, including materials such as stained hardwoods, brass, bronze and stone.

The brand's airport shop opened last October, and sells a selection of luxury products from the group's Piccadilly flagship, such as hampers, teas, preserves, confectionery, smoked salmon and caviar.

The group joins a number of well-known names to operate sites within Heathrow, with Terminal 5 also playing host to Gordon Ramsay's Plane Food concept, and the Pilots Bar & Kitchen by caterer Rhubarb.

Similarly, other high-profile projects at the airport have included Heston Blumenthal's the Perfectionists' Café, and the Gorgeous Kitchen from Sophie Michell (executive chef at Belgraves hotel), Jo Pratt, Gee Charman and Caroline Mil Artiss, both at Terminal 2.

The airport also has a number of JD Wetherspoon pubs, plus coffee shops including Ca'puccino, Apostrophe and Costa.
