Gainsborough Bath Spa appoints GM
The Gainsborough Bath Spa has named Martin Clubbe as its new general manager.
The property, which is being developed by Malaysia-based YTL Hotels, is expected to open in early 2015 and will be the company's first Classic hotel in the UK.
Clubbe, a resident of Bath for the past 15 years, joins from Macdonald Hotels, where during the past five years he was responsible for the repositioning of the Macdonald Bath Spa Hotel as a five-star property.
Prior to that Clubbe led the transformation of the Manor House hotel & golf club in Castle Coombe, just outside of Bath, from a three-star 20-bedroom hotel to a 60-bedroom five-star country house hotel and golf course. His past experience also includes luxury hotels in Switzerland, France and the US.
Dato Mark Yeoh, executive director of YTL Hotels, commented: "With Martin's unrivalled knowledge of Bath and a dedicated commitment to outstanding quality service and standards in both people and property, he is the natural choice to run this exceptional new hotel. We are delighted to welcome him into the YTL Hotels team."
The Gainsborough Bath Spa was previously reported to be opening in Spring 2014. Comprising three historical buildings, the hotel will feature 99 guestrooms and suites. It will also be home to the Spa Village Bath, making it the only UK hotel to provide its guests access to the Bath's natural thermal waters. Austrian Michelin-starred chef Johann Lafer will head up the hotel's bar and restaurant.
Clubbe added: "I am dedicated to running a passionate and inspirational team of staff and very much look forward to welcoming guests both locally and internationally when the luxurious hotel and spa opens its doors this year."
