Gallacher to join Brand Group board
Contract catering veteran James Stirling Gallacher is to join the board of the Brand Group as a non-executive director from 1 January.
His appointment will clearly strengthen the group's position as it gears up for flotation, provisionally earmarked for 1996.
Mr Gallacher's curriculum vitae comprises nearly 40 years in contract catering, with three years spent as managing director of Gardner Merchant and a further 10 years in the same role at Sutcliffe.
In 1989 he was made chairman of Sutcliffe, a position he filled until the group's takeover by Granada in 1992.
Jerry Brand, chief executive of the Brand Group, described Mr Gallacher as "a truly experienced operator" who would be a major asset to the company.
"He will be joining the board to advise on our group policy and will help us in our aim of bringing the contract catering industry into the 21st century," said Mr Brand.
Mr Gallacher also holds an advisory post with P&O, sits on the advisory board of the University of Surrey and on the board of fellows of the HCIMA.
