Galvin brothers to launch pub company

Chef-restaurateurs Chris and Jeff Galvin, owners of Galvin Restaurants, are on the hunt for new pub sites as they aim to create a standalone pub company.

The brothers have appointed property agent Christie + Co to search for new sites to add to their portfolio.

The news comes less than a month after it emerged that the Galvins would take over the 14th century Green Man pub in Chelmsford, Essex.

The pubs will come under the banner of the Galvin Pub Co. The brothers are thought to be targeting the home counties, although it is not known at this stage how many sites they are hoping to take on.

Jeff Galvin said he was especially looking forward to the opportunity of working with local artisans and growers from around the home counties, enabling the pubs to showcase their produce.

The plan is for the pubs to serve simple food sourced from British farms, along with British hand-drawn cask ales and beers, and a selection of wines.

Simon Chaplin, director, Corporate Pubs & Restaurants at Christie + Co, said: "We fully understand the ethos behind the Galvin Pub Co brand and are looking forward to helping them grow their pub offering. The Galvin team are keen to move quickly and have already acquired the Green Man pub in Chelmsford, Essex, which has quickly gained a strong following and local support whilst undergoing its restoration and refurbishment. We will look to grow the portfolio in the London suburbs and along the Thames Valley."

Chris Galvin said: "Christie + Co have excellent relationships throughout the pub sectors so we are looking to tap into their contacts to source the best pub properties on offer to expand the Galvin brand. Our goal is to deliver people's perception of the great British pub serving the local neighbourhood, and also becoming a destination in itself. We will re-establish the no-nonsense approach to our pubs by working with hand-picked staff, using simple cooking methods and utilising the best quality, locally sourced ingredients."

Galvin Restaurants was founded in 2005 by chef brothers Chris and Jeff Galvin. Included in its portfolio of seven restaurants are Galvin La Chapelle in Spital Square, London, and their original restaurant Bistrot de Luxe, in Baker Street.
